Behavioural addictions, including but not limited to internet gaming, social media use, gambling, and shopping, are emerging as significant public health concerns worldwide. These addictions can have profound psychological, social, and physical impacts, necessitating effective prevention and treatment strategies. The Indian Journal of Psychiatric Social Work is pleased to announce a special issue dedicated to exploring innovative research, interventions, and policies in the prevention and treatment of behavioural addictions.

Scope and Objectives

This special issue aims to showcase the latest research and evidence-based practices in the field of behavioural addiction prevention and treatment. We invite submissions on the following themes:

  • Dimensions and impact of behavioural addiction: Multifaceted nature and consequences of behavioural addiction, covering prevalence, risk factors, mental health impacts, socioeconomic and cultural influences
  • Innovative Prevention Programs: Novel initiatives aimed at preventing behavioural addictions among various populations, including children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Treatment Modalities: Effective therapeutic approaches and interventions for managing behavioural addictions.
  • Policy and Legislation: The role of policies and legislation in preventing and treating behavioural addictions.
  • Community-Based Approaches: Strategies involving community engagement in the prevention and management of behavioural addictions.
  • Technology and Digital Interventions: The use of digital tools and online platforms in preventing and treating behavioural addictions.
  • Evaluation and Outcomes: Studies assessing the effectiveness and outcomes of various prevention and treatment strategies.
  • Integrative and Holistic Approaches: Comprehensive approaches that integrate mental, physical, and social health perspectives in the prevention and treatment of behavioural addictions.

Submission Guidelines

We welcome researchers, clinicians, and policymakers to submit original research articles, reviews, case studies, and commentaries that align with the themes of this special issue. Submissions should follow the journal's standard guidelines for format and style.

Manuscript Submission Deadline: 31/10/2024

Notification of Acceptance: 30/11/2024

Expected Publication Date: December 2024

Submission Process

  1. Manuscript Preparation: Authors should prepare their manuscripts according to the Indian Journal of Psychiatric Social Work's guidelines https://pswjournal.org/index.php/ijpsw/about/submissions
  2. Online Submission: Submit your manuscript through our online submission system at https://pswjournal.org/index.php/ijpsw/about/submissions This is compulsory to enable a fast and transparent review process. New authors are required to register as authors, a simple two-step procedure. For online submission, articles should be prepared in two files: a first-page file (cover letter) and an article file with the abstract. To ensure blind review, please remove author information from the manuscript file and include it only in the separate first-page file during submission.
  3. Cover Letter: Include a cover letter stating that the submission is for the special issue on Behavioural Addiction Prevention and Treatment and briefly describe how the manuscript fits within the scope of the issue.
  4. Use of AI Tools:The use of AI tools to generate ideas is prohibited. However, using AI to enhance the grammar and readability of the authors' original work is allowed. Please declare and fully describe any use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in any aspects of your research in your submission to the IJPSW. Include this information before the reference section.
  5. Reference Style: The journal follows the Vancouver reference style, which must be adhered to. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify references in the text, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals in superscript within square brackets ([.]) after full stops or commas.
  6. Conflicting Interests: Please ensure that a "Declaration of Conflicting Interests" statement is included at the end of your manuscript, following any acknowledgements and preceding the references. If no conflict exists, please state that "The Author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest".
  7. Ethical consideration: Mention of ethical committee approval status for research papers, included at the end of your manuscript, following any acknowledgements and preceding the references.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the publication of high-quality research. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers and the guest editor.
